Nomex® paper is a product manufactured by DuPont™. Nomex® is a synthetic aromatic polyamide polymer that provides high levels of electrical, chemical and mechanical integrity when converted to paper and subsequent specialized parts. Its longterm resistance to high temperatures extends the life of electrical equipment, reduces premature failures and acts as a safeguard in unforeseen electrical stress situations. Outstanding electrical and mechanical properties and the lack of degradation products like water or gas are some of the additional features of Nomex® fiber based products. Weidmann is a contractual distributor for Nomex®, mainly for applications in fluid impregnated transformers. At Weidmann we glue, weld, slit, punch, cuff Nomex® paper into components for direct use without further conversion processes by customers.
Field of Application
Nomex® paper components are used in power, traction, mobile, distribution and dry type transformers as well as in motors and generators.
Plain Nomex® paper is available in high, medium and low density. Weidmann supplies it either plain or in various converted forms as paper or parts made of it.
“Nomex® 410” is the high density, calendered grade that offers high inherent dielectric strength, mechanical strength, flexiblity and resilience.
“Nomex® 410 – diamond dotted” is used as layer insulation and increases the short circuit strength of transformer coils.
Nomex® – Crepe Paper
“Nomex® – Crepe paper” is suitable for all applications, where a proper insulation can not be reached with flat paper. This product is available made of 2.3 mils and 5 mils Nomex® 410 thus still providing high tensile strength and also made from 7 mils Nomex® 411 that offers high flexibility.
Medium density “Nomex® E56” is designed for cost critical applications that require a moderate amount of mechanical and electrical strength.
“Nomex® 411” is the low density, uncalendered grade that is used in applications such as motor phase insulation and transformer coil end filler, where high bulk and conformability are of prime importance.
