Structural support for
windings in power transformers

Clamping rings are essential to the mechanical integrity of power transformers, applying the necessary axial pressure to secure windings in place. Typically donut-shaped, these components are engineered to maintain structural strength under short-circuit conditions and ensure long-term winding stability.

Weidmann manufactures clamping rings using polyester resin-bonded laminated Transformerboard – a material offering consistent mechanical properties, excellent dielectric performance, and superior dimensional stability compared to traditional wood. Unlike wood, it also avoids the release of acids during drying, enhancing long-term reliability. Drying holes Ø 10 mm, connected by slots are applied on clamping rings to improve the drying and impregnation. 

At higher voltage levels, where electrical strength is critical, laminated Transformerboard provides a highly stable and homogenous insulation material, making it the preferred choice for demanding transformer designs.
